Gray Changes Policy after FTVLive Story
On Friday, FTVLive told you how some stations were telling employees that if they had to self-quarantine that they would only be paid for the PTO days they had stored up.
We showed you a tweet from WLOX (Biloxi) Anchor/Reporter Alison Span about her employer Gray Television, and how she only had 3 PTO stored up. In other words, if she had to sit out of work for two weeks, she would only be paid for 3 days.
This might be fine for someone in a big market that is making a decent wage, but this is Biloxi and the pay in TV news in Biloxi isn’t that great.
On Friday, FTVLive wrote, “companies like Gray and others need to pay employees the entire time they are away from work. This we will only pay you the PTO days you have stored up is complete bullshit.”
Well, we have some good news to report. Just a few hours after FTVLive posted the story, Gray informed employees that they will be paid for the entire time they are off, if dealing with the coronavirus.
This is how it should have been from the start, but we give Gray props for at least righting a wrong.
Now, other groups like Scripps and others need to do the same thing.
