Louisville Station Burns Source, Sacks Assignment Editor
It appears that Gray’s WAVE in Louisville burned a source and sacked an Assignment Editor all in the same day.
The Louisville Courier Journal says that longtime Assignment Editor Aaron Ellis saw Investigative Reporter Natalia Martinez sitting with a man in a car for some time in the station’s parking lot and became suspicious.
Word is that Ellis called one of his contacts in the Louisville Metro Police Department and suggested they run the vehicle’s license plate.
The vehicle turned out to be owned by a Louisville Police Detective who had been helping Martinez on a story.
The Detective was admonished by his supervisors for having unauthorized contact with a Reporter, according to sources.
The detective called Martinez and asked how the department found out so quickly about their meeting. She discovered that Ellis had called LMPD, and she reported to the station’s management that he had burned one of her sources.
The station fired Ellis.
The station’s news director, Dan Fabrizio, did not respond to multiple requests for comments. Martinez also declined to comment.
Public information officers at the police department also didn’t respond to questions.
