Going to the Bench in Jax
When the book rolls around, it is time for stations to trot out their talent to discuss their health issues, problems or addictions to help pull in viewers during ratings.
But, what happens when your talent isn’t battling the bottle, hasn’t gotten arrested or doesn’t have cancer?
It can really be hard on stations when a rating period rolls around.
That is what happened to Tegna’s First Cost News here in Jacksonville.
Now, of course, the station can go out and find viewers that are dealing with one or all of these issues, but that is just not the same.
We now live in a news time where it is no longer about the viewer, but all about us.
Luckily for this Tegna station, they were able to go to the bench and bring in a reserve player.
First Coast News Assistant News Director Annie Hammock was obese, weighing in at over 300 pounds and even a co-worker called her a “fat cow.”
Hammock had weight loss surgery, dropped over 150 pounds and just in time for ratings, she is able to talk about it.
And, just like that, the Feb book was saved by the Deuce.
