MSNBC to Make a Change at the Top
Well damn! A cable news station finally did something right.
NBC announced that longtime MSNBC head Phil Griffin will be leaving the cable news station in January and the company has his replacement lined up.
The new head of MSNBC will not only be a woman, but a black woman. How awesome is that?!
MSNBC Senior VP Rashida Jones will get the top job at MSNBC when Griffin finally leaves.
FTVLive has been pushing for years to see more women and minorities in the corner offices of TV stations and networks and this is a great move by MSNBC.
With Jeff Zucker expected to be soon leaving CNN, this could mean that women will run all the major cable news nets.
You will have Jones heading up MSNBC, Suzanne Scott is running Fox News and if CNN does the right thing, we’ll hopefully see a woman in charge over there.
“After the presidential election, Phil and I spoke about his desire to depart at a time of his choosing and when he felt confident about the strength of the network he loves,” NBC Chairman Cesar Conde wrote in an internal memo to the staff.
Jones is expected to take over on Feb. 1st.
