Longtime WATN Reporter Mike Matthews has decided to hang it up.

After 44 years, “The Watch Dog” as the station dubbed him is ready to step down.

The Tegna station bumped the news about COVID and everything else down to bring the story of Mike Matthews retiring to the TOP of the newscast.

Really?

A Reporter retiring, no matter who it is, is not the lead story. The news should be about the news and not about you.

The Matthews story could have easily gone to the C block where it belonged.

Then again, this is the last place station in the market, so, I guess….whatever.
