Conan O’Brien is Wrapping Up His Run

Back in 2009, FTVLive broke the news that NBC was going to pull the plug on Jay Leno’s 10PM show and move him back to The Tonight Show.

That meant Conan O’Brien was going to be pushed out of the gig he just took over.

O’Brien left NBC and took his show over to TBS. But, he announced that he is leaving that gig next Summer.

O’Brien says he will sign off in June of 2021 and will then start doing a weekly variety series on streaming service HBO Max.

“In 1993, Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform,’ ” O’Brien joked in a press release sent out by WarnerMedia. “I’m thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription.”

By the way, the Leno/O’Brien story was one of the biggest media stories back in 2009. To this day people still wonder how FTVLive scooped all the big outlets with the news? Some have guessed, but no one has come close. Maybe one day, if I write a book, I will tell the story.

Maybe.
