Layoffs to Hit NBC
Back in 2006, FTVLive FIRST told you that under Jeff Zucker, NBC was going to under institute huge cuts of nearly 800 people.
Zucker called the budget cut plan NBC 2.0 and said that by putting his plan in place, NBC would not have to make cuts in the future.
We now know that was not the case, as NBC has had a number of rounds of layoffs since then.
And, it is going to happen again.
Starting next month and through early year, NBC is expected to whack around 300 of its employees.
NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell confirmed that the restructuring will result in layoffs during parent company Comcast’s second-quarter earnings call in August, but he didn’t mention any specifics or timeline.
Deadline says that NBCUniversal’s recently formed Television and Streaming division, led by Chairman Mark Lazarus, is expected to take the brunt of the layoffs. The unit was created in a reorganization designed to emphasize NBCU’s focus on streaming.
Sources tell FTVLive that the NBC O&O’s are being asked to look at their budgets and see if they can “tighten them up.”
Does that mean cuts could reach into the O&O’s?
Stay tuned…..
