I Took the Buyout

When FTVLive launched over 20 years ago, almost every big city paper had a media critic.

As we started, it made our job easier as we just bumped around the internet from paper to paper finding already done stories about what was happening in local news.

Here we are in 2020 and finding a paper with a media critic is like trying to find a real journalist on cable news.

The Orlando Sentinel’s Hal Boedeker was one of the last men standing as a media guy for Central Florida’s paper.

But now, after 25 years, he has taken a voluntary buyout and is hanging it up.

He started out as the TV critic and as the industry shrunk he was asked to more. In addition to TV, he wrote about movies and other topics. But now it’s over.

“However the job changed, I tried to keep love first. Make no mistake: I loved this job,” he said in his sign off column.

Good luck on the next chapter Hal and don’t worry, FTVLive will still be here to keep the media honest and call them out when they deserve it.
