Longtime WFLA Reporter Peter Bernard is signing off from the Nexstar station in Tampa.

He has spent nearly 2 decades at the station. He also worked across the street at WFTS and had stints in Pocatello,Idaho. Topeka, Kansas. Springfield, Missouri. Albany, New York. St. Louis, Missouri, before ending up in Tampa.

Bernard told FTVLive unequivocally, this decision is mine. I’m not being forced out. He was poking a bit of fun at people in the business that get so worried about shit like that.

He signs off for the last time tomorrow and says his post TV news plans include Losing weight, playing tennis, enjoying his Tesla, travel, visit my California parents, and not worry about covering stories.

He leaves with these words, “the TV news business has changed remarkably over the years. I’m not sure the current business model can survive. I worry about how my co-workers will continue to make an income. For me, however, I’m done.”
