Why Sinclair Might Be Looking to Sell Station?

Yesterday, FTVLive told you that some suits were seen walking around Sinclair’s WBMA in Birmingham kicking the tires.

An industry insider sent and email to FTVLive with his thoughts as to why Sinclair might be looking to sell the Birmingham station.

Here’s his take:

When Sinclair bought Albritton, it kept the stations that it had before (WABM & WTTO) It's a goofy situation, to say the least. There are at least four full power stations in Central AL that Sinclair owns, operates, controls, etc. Way more than the FCC limits. Two of the stations are owned by Armstrong Williams (Howard Stirk Holdings), a Sinclair shell operator.

Sinclair has been in the FCC doghouse since the deal for Tribune blew up on them.

My guess is that Sinclair might be shopping some of the stations where Sinclair simply has flouted the FCC ownership rules to excess (like Birmingham, Nashville, Flint/Saginaw, probably others). They can't attempt to buy other stations until they get their FCC house in order.
