Shooting Victim Sues TV Station
The only survivor of a 2015 attack where a disgruntled former WDBJ employee shot and killed two employees of the station is suing the station.
Reporter Alison Parker and Photographer Adam Ward were doing a live shot, interviewing Vicki Gardner, when former WDBJ staffer Vester Lee Flanagan shot all three of them.
Parker and Ward were killed and Gardner was wounded.
Now, Gardner is suing the station for $6 million dollars.
Gardner says WDBJ was negligent in hiring Flanagan. Flanagan had been fired two years prior for reportedly threatening behavior. Gardner’s lawsuit says WDBJ didn’t properly screen Flanagan, who had similar issues with previous employers.
Gardner was shot in the spine that left her with back pain and other issues, plus cost her a kidney and part of her intestines.
Flanagan later killed himself.
