About That Face App...

Meredith VP of News Gary Brown

TV newsies have been all over social media posting pictures of what they MAY look like when they are older using the Face App to do so.

The app is a big hit in the ego driven TV industry.

It is a nice break from the endless stream of selfies that TV people love to post.

But, just so you know, by using the Face App, you have given up a lot of your privacy to the developer.

In looking at the terms of the Face App, it reads:

“You grant FaceApp a perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully-paid, transferable sub-licensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform and display your User Content and any name, username or likeness provided in connection with your User Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed, without compensation to you,.”

In other words, the photos you upload on the app could be used in very public ways later on.

Also, the company’s privacy policy makes clear that it is able to collect and store information from your phone and that it might be used for ads or other forms of marketing.

That’s a lot of info to give up, just for a “funny” post to Twitter.

Just saying…
