NOT AGAIN! Another Tegna Station Hires Comedian

Seriously?! What the hell is Tegna thinking and why are they trying to ruin local news?

Tegna’s WKYC has joined a list of the company’s stations that have decided to hire comedians to report news.

WTF?!

WKYC says they have hired comic Mike Polk Jr.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mike Polk Jr. to the WKYC family," said WKYC General Manager Micki Byrnes in a statement. "Mike is one of the most well-established and successful figures in the Cleveland comedy scene and we’re excited that he’ll be bringing a fresh perspective and smart sense of humor to the local news cycle on a daily basis.”

How bad is this? Cleveland.com says that the station is looking to have the comic anchor the 11 p.m. newscast on Fridays.

This is not hiring a comedian to do feature stories, this is hiring a comic to anchor the news!

How bad is it? The comic himself can’t believe they offered him the job. “I was as surprised that WKYC offered me this gig as I’m certain everyone else is, and I told them as much," Polk said, “But for the life of me I could not manage to talk my way out of this tremendous opportunity.

Tegna first crossed the journalism line when they hired comedian Reese Waters to anchor the morning news at WUSA in DC.

There is hardly a day that goes by that FTVLive does not get some negative feedback as to Waters anchoring the news in DC.

We thought by now, Tegna would have dropped this experiment after watching Waters talk about shootings and rapes while wearing a T-shirt that says “Im smooth” or some other inappropriate outfit.

But no, Tegna continues to thumb their nose at Journalist that care about this business and hire comics to deliver the news.

Journalism is a profession, done by professionals. How would you feel if the local hospital started hiring comics to preform surgery?

Would you be ok with the guy from the comedy club cutting into your chest?

Why is Tegna trying to mock an entire profession and the people that work in it?
