Called Out for Clickbait

By now you know FTVLive’s opinion about Facebook and TV news departments relying on it to try and get viewers.

It seems that KPHO/KTVK (Phoenix) posted a tease for a story about a family that was worried they were going to lose their house. The story they posted to Facebook was a tease and some viewers were not happy that they would have to watch the newscast to get the full story.

The station posted this:

But after Facebook readers found out that they would need to watch the newscast to get the full story, they were not happy:

Again, this is the problem with using Facebook.

In this case, KPHO/KTVK asked viewers to click on the story which took them to the station’s website. But, once there, viewers learned they would have to watch the newscast to get the rest of the story.

This is not a station that is practicing digital first. Using Facebook to get them to navigate their way to your website was all good. But then, not giving them the story and telling the viewer they must watch the newscast, is one step too many.

You’re making the view jump through too many hoops to try and get the news.

This is a prime example for stations of what NOT to do.
