Sources tell FTVLIve that WGCL Reporter Julie Smith was working at her desk yesterday, when she was called into News Director Steve Doerr’s office and told that her services were no longer needed at the Meredith station.

In view of many people in the newsroom, Smith was asked to turn over her ID card to the newsroom secretary.

While her bio remains up on the WGCL website (until the suits read FTVLive), this internal memo sent to the staff and obtained by FTVLive shows she no longer works there.

Smith was well liked in the newsroom and back in November Doerr sent out a memo to the staff saying that Smith was taking on a new role at WGCL as a liaison of sorts with sales and marketing.

It was basically a move to try and bring more money into the station. It now looks like the station will be saving money by cutting her from the payroll.
