Detroit Anchor Inducted into Buffalo Hall of Fame (Huh?)
WJBK (Detroit) Anchor Sherry Margolis is going to be inducted into the Buffalo Broadcast Hall of Fame.
Wait! What?
Margolis has been in Motown for decades, but she got her start in Buffalo and is from the area.
So, Margolis is receiving the Buffalo Bob Smith Award, which goes to broadcasters who were either born in Buffalo or who worked here before being successful elsewhere.
Margolis started in Buffalo as host and producer of a children’s program, “The Jelly Roll Review,” at WUTV before becoming a WKBW Anchor when the station was dominant.
She moved to Detroit 35 years ago and currently anchors the news at WJBK.
A footnote to this story: Sherry Margolis is a big reason I got into TV news and she helped me do so. It is likely that she has no recollection of this and more than likely wants no responsibility in getting me into TV news.
One day on the Vlog, I will tell the story of how Sherry Margolis helped launch my career in TV news.
