This is the internal memo that KDVR/KWGN News Director Brian Gregory sent to the staff after a tough week covering the news in the Denver market.

This has been a tough week. Emotionally. Physically. And Mentally.

Once again – as journalists we were forced to cover an incredibly heartbreaking story. One that once again rattled our community to the core.

I’d just like to thank you for your hard work, your dedication, and for turning some amazing stories about this tragedy, the heroes, the victims, the survivors, and for digging in and working to break new details concerning the case. Your journalism made a difference in our community this week, even as we mourned and reflected with our friends, neighbors, and strangers.

I admire your strength during what has been months of tough stories.

Just a few reminders – as many of you are selfless and sometimes forget to take care of yourselves. If this is your weekend – take time to relax and reflect on what you covered this week. Find something fun to do or an activity that helps you relax and rejuvenate. If the weekend is a weekend of work for you – find time at the beginning or the end of your shift to do something you love to do.
