A Great Story Ruined by an Anchor Comment
Tegna’s WUSA (DC) did a story about a teacher that was teaching her students ballet after class on her own time and her own dime.
The teacher, Jordan Daugherty went the extra mile in showing her kids the art of ballet and the kids really enjoy it.
Many of the kids did not have the proper footwear or clothes for ballet because their parents just could not afford the cost. But, it did not stop the kids from being enthusiastic to learning something new.
WUSA featured the story on Miss Jordan and her kids and the community stepped up. The kids were given free ballet shoes and outfits and Miss Jordon was given $500 to buy some of the supplies she needs.
FTVLive watched the moving story done by the Tegna station and it was one of those feel good stories that makes you want to tip your cap to the station.
But, as the station came out of the package, the entire moment was ruined by comedian turned TV Anchor Reese Waters.
FTVLive has told you how, for some reason, WUSA hired a comic to anchor the station’s morning newscast.
Yesterday, after watching the story about the teacher that went the extra mile for her students, the Reporter tagged out the story and then Watters said something like, “I would love my kids to take dance class as well, especially if they were given free stuff.”
I’m sure the parents that could not afford to buy their kid’s shoes and clothes really appreciated this “funny” comment from the comedian/anchor?
How about those kids that were watching themselves on the Tegna station? I’m sure they thought it was so funny to be told they were poor.
This was a great story by the station and a great gesture by the businesses that stepped up and helped out with some donations. Too bad the entire segment was ruined by a comic turned tv anchor trying to make a funny comment.
It wasn’t funny and Waters owes these kids and their parents an apology (we won’t hold our breath).
I’m sorry, but poking fun at a person for being poor is not funny. It’s a shame that such a good story was all for not.
Just saying….
