A Look Back in LA
On Friday, FTVLive FIRST told you that KCBS KCAL General Manager Steve Mauldin would be stepping down as GM later next month (don’t worry, the others guys should get around to the story later today).
Mauldin was on FTVLive’s radar when he was named on of FTVLive’s worst people in TV news for 2018.
Sources inside CBS say that they have been contacted by CBS lawyers looking into the actions of Mauldin.
Did that lead to the Good Friday announcement that he’s leaving? Or, is this really his own decision?
When Mauldin was hired at KCBS back in 2009, he came in with great fanfare and big promises.
The LA Times reported his hiring and here are a few excerpts from the story:
At the time of his hiring, Mauldin said, "We have a lot to work with here. Both television stations have a lot of talent and KCAL has a great brand," he said in an interview. "But obviously, I am here for a reason and that is to help these stations grow."
The stations did not grow and in fact they lost ratings and a lot of great people.
The story goes onto say, Mauldin said it was too early to say what moves he might make because Thursday was his first day on the job. "I don't want to mess up anything that's working, but if it's not working, then we will make changes and soon," he said.
Many both inside KCBS/KCAL would say that he did mess things up and many wonder it KCBS can recover?
Time will tell and we will have to wait and see sho CBS picks to replace him?
