When the News Comes to You

The news day got a bit more exciting for the people working at Spectrum News in Albany.

A man who was involved in an altercation earlier Thanksgiving Day ended up in a police standoff in the parking lot of Spectrum News.

The suspect tried to drive away from police a couple of times and one cop shot at least one round towards the suspect. The man on the run tried entering the Spectrum News news parking lot but was blocked by a gate.

Police blocked the man in and then it become a standoff.

Crisis negotiators were seen bringing shoes, a winter coat and a cell phone to the man during the standoff, and were able to speak on the phone with him. An armored police vehicle eventually drove into the parking lot of the Honest Weight Food Co-op across the street from the TV studio.

Shortly before 4 p.m., the man surrendered peacefully and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, Smith said. Police didn't find any weapons on the man, but were awaiting a search warrant to determine whether there were any weapons in his truck.
