She Left The Sinclair Station With Good Reason
WWMT Anchor Kate Tillotson left the Kalamazoo station and she says that Sinclair’s journalistic choices was one of the reasons for her going.
Tillotson has not only left the station but she has left TV news altogether.
Tillotson has accepted a job as a communications manager for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and began in the new role recently. The association’s 900 members serve 42 million people and maintain electric lines across the country, she said.
“I want to thank West Michigan for inviting me into their homes each and every night and lending me their eyes, their ears and also their opinions," Tillotson said.
Tillotson pointed out that having Sinclair as an owner factored in her decision to leave the station.
“Newschannel 3 is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group. In the last couple years there have been some journalistic choices made that didn’t align with my journalistic values,” Tillotson said. She declined to talk about specifics.
It is sad that someone feels they have to leave the industry because their corporate owner is involved in editorial decisions.
So very sad.
