First off, the headline is awful.

The firefighters had to put out a fire, so, they were dispatched to a fire and not a “possible fire.” The call could have come in as a “possible fire”, but once they got to the scene and saw fire, it was no longer “possible” it was a fire.

Second, how can a building be “abandoned and occupied” at the same time? That makes no sense at all.

As for the last line, how about just “when firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke coming from the building”?

Again, this reporting came from a station in Cleveland, not Yuma.
