Wrong...
Gray’s WOIO seems to be on a roll in making FTVLive lately and it hasn’t been because of stellar journalism.
On Friday night’s late newscast, WOIO was reporting on some attempted abductions of teenage girls. It’s the kind of news that sends chills to every parent.
WOIO tried to back up the story with a map. But it was wrong.
The two incidents occurred on East 36th street in downtown Cleveland. The first was at Carnegie and E. 36th. The second was two blocks south at Cedar and E. 36th. FYI BTW- East 36th street is a north-south street.
However, the map seen on-air had the second assault location some 5 miles to the East, which is impossible, at the intersection of “E 36 and Cedar”. The intersection on the map is not only in the wrong location but that intersection is really Cedar and Lee. Cedar and East 36 does not exist.
In fact, if you look closely at the street names on the map you can see the streets at the second location are Lee and Cedar.
The info was wrong and on a story like this, it is really important to get the right information out to the viewers.
That did not happen here.
