NBC News President in Fight For His Job
Ronan Farrow’s new book, “Catch & Kill” drops today and NBC News President Noah Oppenheim is doing all he can to discredit Farrow and the book.
Farrow worked at NBC News and left the network after he says that NBC spiked his story on Harvey Weinstein.
There is no doubt that from Weinstein to Matt Lauer, Farrow’s book makes NBC’s news management look at best idiotic and at worse responsible for trying to help cover up incidents of sexual misconduct.
The book puts both Oppenheim and chairman of NBC News Andy Lack in the crosshairs.
One NBC staffer said to FTVLive, No way Oppenheim should survive this.”
For his part, Oppenheim is doing all he can to try and discredit Farrow and convince his staff that what is in the book is not true.
Oppenheim appears to read the book and then send out memos trying to say what was written by Farrow is not true in memos to the staff.
In his latest memo to the staff, Oppenheim writes, “Farrow’s effort to defame NBC News is clearly motivated not by a pursuit of truth, but an axe to grind. It is built on a series of distortions, confused timelines, and outright inaccuracies.”
Insiders tell FTVLive that Oppenheim is so obsessed with the book that the on-air news product is an after thought to him.
As for his thoughts on Matt Lauer and his behavior at NBC? “I feel absolutely terrible that these three employees were subjected to Matt Lauer’s horrific behavior, but the facts do not support Farrow’s allegation of a ‘cover-up,’ and he offers no further evidence,” Oppenheim wrote.
At this point, Oppenheim appears to be ready to throw anyone and everyone under the bus to help keep his job.
“He has lost a lot of respect here,” said one staffer to FTVLive.
It might be time for Noah to build and ark and sail away from 30 Rock.
By the way, look for the bookstores near 30 Rock to sell out fast on “Catch & Kill” today.
Just saying….
