News Director Sues Cox

Former WSOC (Charlotte) News Director Julie Szulczewski has filed a lawsuit against her old station and its owner Cox.

Szulczewski, now the News Director at WAFF in Huntsville was ND at WSOC for just over 7 years. She was also Managing Editor at the station for 3 years before leaving to become the ND at KOB in Albuquerque. She then returned to WSOC as the ND.

Back in March of 2018, Szulczewski was let go from the station and replaced by Mike Oliveria on the same day.

In her lawsuit, Szulczewski said WSOC and its parent company, Cox pushed her out to bring in a younger, less qualified man and “keep the boys’ club” happy.

“In today’s world, a talented female professional must still contend with the boys’ club mentality condoned by some employers, like the defendants, who condone the actions of their male managers when they band together to smear the reputation of an older female colleague to protect one of their own,” the complaint states.

Cox is in the process of being purchased by Apollo.
