St. Louis Anchor Pulled from the Air
10 days ago, FTVLive told you that KTVI (St. Louis) Anchor Kevin Steincross was reading a story on the station’s on the station’s morning news show, when he said an upcoming tribute to the civil rights icon at St. Louis University would honor “Martin Luther coon Jr.”
Steincross said he was sorry later in the newscast and the Tribune station said that they would not take additional disciplinary measures against Steincross.
But now he has been pulled from the station’s air and there is no date for his return.
After negotiations with KTVI, Tribune and the St. Louis County NAACP President John Gaskin this afternoon, Steincross made the announcement hat he would be absent from the station, for now, to regain the trust of the community.
"Station management and I have agreed that I need to step away from the anchor desk for now. I will begin working to regain your trust. I know the work I need to do will take time, and I will do everything I can to address the pain I caused."
Steincross has been with KTVI for 22 years, beginning in 1996 and moved to the morning newscaster role in 1998.
