Salt Lake City Reporter Busted By Police
KSL Morning News Reporter Casey Scott has been has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police say he caused a car crash.
Scott was arrested after police say he was driving on U.S. 89 at about 3:20 p.m. when he “left his lane” and swiped another vehicle. This caused Scott to lose control of his vehicle, according to a probable cause statement filed in court, and he crashed into another car in an intersection after running a red light.
The Utah Highway Patrol trooper noted in his report that Scott smelled like alcohol, and three open containers of beer were found inside his car.
He was arrested and booked into the Davis County jail, where he was released after posting bail.
Scott was charged in Davis County Justice Court with DUI, drinking alcohol in a vehicle and improper use of lanes — all misdemeanor crimes. His first court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 22.
It’s unclear what Scott’s job status is with the television station. Tanya Vea, KSL’s general manager, said in a statement Thursday that it was a “personnel matter" and that they are focused on gathering information and assisting their employee.
“As an organization, we obviously don’t condone driving under the influence, and see it as a serious public safety issue,” she said. “Several of our stations air campaigns aimed at increasing safety on the roads.”
Scott's Twitter bio says, "all are welcome...have fun....and be good...and if you're not good be good at being bad....."
To KSL's credit they did air a story about their employee being arrested and showed transparency in covering the story.
