Meredith Vieira: "There was Sexism for Sure" at CBS
Meredith Vieira is giving thoughts about her experience at CBS News and working on the show 60 Minutes.
Vieira has been traveling and promoting her new PBS series about "The Great American Read," but she's a little behind when it comes to reading the new exposé about CBS chief Leslie Moonves.
USA Today writes that while promoting "Read" at the Television Critics Association press tour Monday, Vieira, a longtime CBS staffer, was asked for her reaction to Ronan Farrow's report in The New Yorker that Moonves has sexually harassed six women.
"I have not read the piece," Vieira admitted to the assembled reporters. “I’ve been out here shooting a pilot. I know it’s about Les Moonves, but I don’t know if it’s sexual harassment, I just don’t know."
Vieira went on to discuss her own time at the network, where she worked for 11 years as a reporter and anchor for "60 Minutes" and "CBS This Morning."
"People know my story from CBS,” she said. “I think there was sexism for sure. I never was harassed per se, but I think it was difficult at the time on that show to navigate your way as a woman. I’ve never experienced harassment as a woman anywhere that I’ve been. Maybe they’re scared of me.”
