Signing Off in Toledo

Longtime WTOL Anchor Jerry Anderson is getting ready to sign off from the station and he wants to go out just like Walter Cronkite did in March of 1981.

Anderson, along with many otherAmericans huddled in front of a TV set just before dinner on March 6, 1981, remembers well Cronkite’s very subdued and no frills good-bye.

Anderson says when he signs off the air for the last time tonight, he wants little made of his exit as well.

“I don’t think the news should ever be about the news person; I’m not the news,” Anderson said in an interview at WTOL earlier this week. “So for me to have a big dang deal made about it, that’s just uncomfortable, that’s silly.”

Wow....we couldn't agree more Jerry, but I have to say in Today's TV news world, you my friend are a dinosaur.... and that has nothing to do with your age.

Looks like TV news will be losing one of the last few people in this industry that gets it.
