OK....this is about embarrassing as it gets. 

KTTC in Rochester, MN fell for a fake press release and reported the story as if it was fact. 

A press release was sent to all the stations in town, claiming that Hal O. Newman was intending to run for mayor of Rochester.

Any Seinfeld fan would have gotten the joke... "Hello Newman." Also, the fact that Newman worked at the U.S. Postal Service was another dead giveaway to any Seinfeld fan.  

But, KTTC did little fact checking and the story soon showed up on the station's website:

A radio station in town also fell for the joke. The other stations in town saw it for what it was. 

And this my friends is why you should have at least one non-millennial helping make news decisions.
