Nexstar Corporate Suits Come to Harrisburg

On Friday, FTVLive told you that former longtime WHTM Anchor Flora Posteraro had filed sex discrimination and retaliation complaints against the Nexstar station.

The day after Posteraro’s claims came out, with disturbing details about General manager Bob Bee and some comments he reportedly said, Nexstar corporate suits showed up at the station.  came to Abc27 for a staff meeting.

Sources tell FTVLive that instead of using it as an opportunity to have a frank and open discussion about the current work environment, they told the staff that they were backing Bob Bee (who was in the room, smiling) and that the accusations against him were false.

"Many people in that room had participated in reporting Bob’s behavior to HR, so it was a slap in the face and it felt like corporate was attempting to intimidate employees," said one station insider.

Sources tell FTVLive that at 3pm on Friday, the station staff gathered in the ABC27 news studio. Terri Bush (corporate HR) and Theresa Underwood (Bob Bee's regional boss) were at the front of the room. They had flown into Harrisburg. Terri said that they wanted to address several inaccurate and misleading statements that the staff may have recently seen in the press.

Bush said that Posteraro was not terminated. She said she couldn't get into specific details about her contract, but she said they offered her "basically an extension" of her old contract. She said Posteraro did not want to be part of their plan or part of this team - as was her right - so she resigned.

Some station employees posted on social media in support of Posteraro and that was also addressed in the meeting.

Bush told the employees who post on social media should be sure to make clear they are not posting on behalf of the station or the company. She reminded us that we are not authorized to speak to the press on behalf of the company.

-Theresa said that CJ (news director) and herself had worked really hard to develop this "plan" and they believe in it, and that they're aware that not everyone likes changes but that's part of moving a station forward.

-Terri said they are aware there is a rally in support of Flora planned to happen in front of the station Saturday and that they're working on a way to make sure everyone who's supposed to work that day can safely and peacefully enter the building. She said if employees want to participate in that rally, that is their right, but people who are on air likely have clauses in their contracts that prevent them from engaging in activity that reflects negatively on the station.

Bush told the employees who post on social media should be sure to make clear they are not posting on behalf of the station or the company. She told them that we are not authorized to speak to the press on behalf of the company.

Insiders say that the staff was told by the corporate suits that Nexstar plans to vigorously defend these "false accusations" against Bee and the station.

Employees walking out of the meeting commented that they felt like the message was "sit down and shut up."
