Struggling Atlanta Station Hires New Anchor
Meredith owned WGCL in Atlanta has hired a replacement for Amanda Davis.
Davis was the station's morning Anchor, who had a history of alcohol problems and died in December after suffering a stroke.
The station has hired another troubled Anchor to replace her.
The station announced they have hired Shon Gables. Gables will be joining the station as Co-Anchor of CBS46 Morning News with Gurvir Dhindsa, beginning March 5th.
Gables worked at WFAA in Dallas until the station cut her lose in 2014. She resurfaced in tiny KTBS in Shreveport, LA, where she was the primary anchor.
FTVLive has done a number of stories in Gables which included her having an arrest warrant out for refusing to pay a quarter of a million dollars judgment against her.
She was also served a lawsuit while on the job and the server taped the notice to the station's live truck.
“Shon is a terrific anchor and highly accomplished investigative reporter,” said CBS46 News Director Steve Doerr. “She’s smart, tough and personable and will be a great fit for this important role.”
It is surprising that a station that has had trouble by hiring controversial Anchors, would go out and hire another one. But then again, it's not like people are knocking down the door to work at this station.
The station still has not replaced Ben Swann, who they fired after he restarted his tinfoil hat website.
As for Gables, she says, “I’m excited to join one of the most innovative and fastest-growing news organizations in the business at WGCL,” she said. “Atlanta is a dynamic, diverse market and I’m looking forward to contributing to the community and the station”.
Ummmmm.....ok?
