This is the memo that went out to the staff at WNBC and was obtained by FTVLive:

Dedication, commitment, intelligence, passion and compassion.
These are just some of the many special qualities that define Susan Sullivan.
Susan joined WNBC during a very difficult period.  Her calming influence was just what the newsroom needed.   Since that time, we have received major awards, ratings success, and added scores of excellent broadcast journalists… and Susan has led the way.
Our investigative unit has flourished.
Our on-air and off-air teams have strengthened.
WNBC is a better place….and Susan has led the way.
When news breaks,  Susan is there and on many nights she’s in the newsroom and the control room all night.
Susan’s commitment to excellence, hard work, and improving is intense.  So is her commitment to the highest standards in journalism.
She is a leader who really cares for everyone in her newsroom.
Susan is taking her talents to NBC News.  They are lucky to have her.
Please join me in thanking Susan for all she has done for all of us  at News 4 New York and wishing her the very best in her new role.
We will have a thank you celebration at a later date.
Susan will join NBC News on March 12th.

 Eric

And here is the internal memo sent out by Sullivan and also obtained by FTVLive:

I don’t want to bury the lede, so I’ll begin with the headline…

After eight years here at WNBC, I’ve accepted a new position with NBC News.

To say it was a difficult decision and I have mixed emotions doesn’t even begin to describe it, but as the business continues to evolve and the company expands in new directions, it’s the ideal time for me to tackle a new challenge.

As I was trying to write this note and find the right words, I spent a lot of time thinking about all of you – and all that we’ve accomplished. We launched (and re-launched!) newscasts, redefined News 4 as an investigative force, built the most powerful and precise radar and tackled consumer problems like never before. We covered inaugurations, elections, terror attacks, a school shooting, train crashes, a papal visit, and countless blizzards, tornadoes and nor’easters. And, of course, the big one: Superstorm Sandy.

It would take me a week to thank everyone for everything (and I’ll do that later, over drinks!). But I’m leaving feeling incredibly proud – of all of you. I’m proud of how everyone has stepped up to whatever challenges we’ve faced, how you’ve taken risks, how people have developed new skills and embraced new responsibilities, and how the team has consistently pushed each other to be better. That’s what you call a foundation. That’s why News 4 is poised to grow – and be #1 again.

I’m not going far – just a few floors in the building. So don’t be surprised to see me drifting through the newsroom – especially during a breaker.

Susan
