Out the Door in the Burgh
WTAE Weekend morning Anchor Bofta Yimam has left the Hearst owned station.
Yimam, who was part of “Pittsburgh’s Action News 4” since the summer of 2013, signed off from the station and said “I’m now leaving for personal reasons.”
In a post on her WTAE Facebook page, she recently posted “WTAE asked me to continue in my role as an anchor/reporter, but they understand the personal reasons behind my decision.”
Yimam will be relocating to Maryland, where she grew up. She said, “I won’t be out of sight. I still plan to visit Pittsburgh, as I have ongoing requests to speak at events. I will also continue public speaking coaching.
“Beyond that, I don’t have all of the answers regarding ‘what’s next!’”
While in Pittsburgh, Yimam was on the board of the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation and worked with nonprofits. Professionally, she said, “I received incredible opportunities as an investigative reporter and morning anchor at WTAE.
“I’m grateful for all of the support these past several years. As a morning anchor, my alarm went off at 1:45 a.m. … so I will enjoy sleeping in a bit these days. So far in my career, Pittsburgh is the longest I’ve lived in a city, other than my home state.”
WTAE news director Jim Parsons said a nationwide search is underway for Yimam's replacement.
