Fired Weatherman Had to Say His Goodbye on the Radio
FTVLive was the FIRST to tell you that CBS O&O KDKA fired longtime Weatherman Jeff Verszyla.
Talking about his firing, Verszyla says that last Friday he was preparing for the evening forecast when he was called into a meeting with general manager Jay Howell and news director Kathy Hostetter, and that’s when he was told they would be “going in another direction,” he said.
He was out of the building by 2:45 p.m.
He barely was able to say goodbye to a few friends at work and was not allowed to tell viewers on air that he was leaving.
Howell declined comment on the sacking.
Verszyla did get his chance to say goodbye, but he had to do so on a local radio station.
He became emotional as he listed some of his co-workers that he worked with through the years as he spoke on “The Bubba Show” on 100.7, with former colleague Mark Snider.
Speaking by phone Monday, Mr. Verszyla added that the new year couldn’t be coming at a better time for starting over. “As many people have been telling me,” he said, “when one door closes, another one opens.”
