Phoenix Anchor Says Why he is Leaving
FTVLive was the FIRST to tell you that KTVK Anchor Brandon Lee was signing off from the Meredith station.
So, why is he leaving?
“I absolutely believe that I have a duty as a public figure to use that platform as a megaphone to help people understand an issue,” Less said.
That is the primary reason why he is leaving KTVK, he said.
“I’m not an overly religious person, but I do believe in God and a higher power,” he said. “I believe my greater sense of purpose is not to be in the news, but to use my public figure — my spotlight, if you will — to help inspire people with a message of hope and recovery.”
He’s in the midst of writing a book about drug addiction, which is where much of his attention will be for the immediate future. It will be a change for Lee, who enjoys the rigid schedule of an anchor.
“I’m such a military guy about being in a routine and I think not having that structure of doing the 5,6,9 and 10 every day will take a little getting used to,” he said.
The split with the Arizona's Family station was completely amicable, he said. He had especially kind words for Kevin James, vice president and general manager for channels 3 and 5.
“It was absolutely mutual and cordial,” Lee said. “Did they want me to go? No. Did they try everything they could to get me to stay long-term? Absolutely. Kevin James is an incredible man and I have had multiple meetings with him over the past month, sharing ideas.”
