New Studio in Raleigh
ABC owned WTVD in Raleigh had planned to take the wraps off their new studio weeks ago.
But, a woman named Florence made a visit to the area and it was post postponed.
But now the station is ready to show off their new digs.
The Business Journal writes that on Wednesday, the station will hold an open house to celebrate the bigger Raleigh operation.
“When we first opened our street-side studio in 2005, we knew Raleigh was going to attract more and more people, and our goal was to be visible and closer to our community,” said Caroline Welch, the station’s president and general manager. “Now it’s time to grow that investment, as Wake County has grown, and take advantage of today’s technology to serve our viewers even better.”
Adam Frary, the director of brand strategy and audience development, said the station saw an opportunity to add space when The Oxford restaurant next door closed in 2016. ABC11 added about half that space, essentially doubling what it previously had. The updated newsroom includes:
An anchor desk that can rotate for a variety of shots;
A new jumbo monitor similar to what’s used by ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir”;
An augmented reality studio;
Expanded capacity for weather, including workspaces for meteorologists, such as Chris Hohmann, that look directly onto Fayetteville Street; and
A flexible, smaller studio for specialty programming.
“We wanted a newsroom that has the feel of a Raleigh co-working space,” Frary said.
