News Crew Hit by Drunk Driver
A very scary moment for a KOMO (Seattle) news crew coming back from covering a story.
The KOMO news crew was struck nearly head-on by a wrong way drunk driver in Eastern Washington Friday night.
The KOMO Photographer was driving their Subaru news vehicle on a bridge along state Route 26 in Othello when an oncoming driver in a Ford Ranger was approaching them in their lane, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The photographer swerved into the other lane to avoid the car, but the Ranger also swerved into that lane and collided with the Subaru.
The Ranger then drove from the scene, troopers said.
An Adams County Sheriff's deputy just happened to be the next driver to approach the scene and chased after the fleeing driver, pulling him over about a mile and a half later -- just a half mile from the driver's home, troopers said. The driver was taken into custody and given a blood alcohol content test. Investigators said the driver's result was 0.253 -- more than three times the legal limit.
Troopers are still investigating the crash, thankfully the crew was not hurt.
