Tegna's New News in Norfolk
FTVLive FIRST told you that Tegna owned WVEC was going to blow up their late local newscast and try something different.
The station said that they would be "PLAYING with cameras, lighting, and formatting...."
Yes, they said "Playing"....
On Friday night they started a Facebook live 10 minutes before the newscast and talked about their new show that viewers were about to see. The station said they spent weeks and weeks practicing for this new newscast.
When the new 11PM newscast hit the air on Friday, there was no new news (aside from weather and sports) since 6pm.
The station missed or chose not to cover local stories that broke between the 6 and 11 that the two other stations had.
It also looked like part of the newscast was prerecorded.
Reviews of the newscast were mixed and many viewers did not like it and told the station so on social media.
Despite spending all this time coming up with the funky new Tegna newscast, the station now says it was just an experiment and after one show they are going back to their old format.
Really? All that for just one show? Should you really do an experiment on the air?
Also, spending that kind of time and using all that promotion for a one-off newscast seems like a bad waste of resources.
But hey...it's Tegna, so it's not like we expected anything different.
