Theis is something they didn't teach you in J-School. 

Along with going out and reporting the news, crews at WTVJ, the NBC O&O in Miami are also required to serve viewers Coffee and pastries right out of the news van. 

It's kind of like if you turned the live truck into a Mr. Softee. 

The station says that every Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m., the station’s morning personalities have been visiting different parts of Miami-Dade and Broward counties as part of the NBC 6 Café, aimed at giving viewers a chance to interact with the anchors.

From their news van, anchors Eric Harryman, Sheli Muñiz, traffic reporter Kelly Blanco and meteorologist Adam Berg chat with passers-by and distribute free coffee and pastries.

“It is our way to really establish a relationship with the communities we serve and a way to thank our viewers for tuning in,” said Claudia Keppinger, community relations and programming manager for the NBC-owned and -operated station in Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

This morning, the Anchors/Servers will be at The Shops at Sunset Place, 5701 Sunset Drive, South Miami.

So, feel free to stop by, get some coffee and leave a buck or two as a tip. I know when it's 98 degrees out and the humidity is 300%, there is nothing I want more than a HOT cup of coffee. 

But, this is a great way to prepare news people for life after TV news.
