Another ND Resignation?
What's going on in Colorado?
KOAA-TV General Manager Evan Pappas sent out a memo that ND Kelly Duffy is leaving. We're providing the memo below so you can appropriately roll your eyes.
This move seems a little odd to us. Duffy came to KOAA in 2013 and since then, has consistently improved the ratings. From what we can tell (and Pappas' memo), KOAA is pretty much the leader in the market. Prior to Colorado, Duffy spent 13 years as assistant ND at Hearst's KSBW in Salinas.
We've also heard that Pappas can be difficult and before Duffy, had several news directors in as many years. FTVLive sources say she's very well liked in the newsroom. So our next question is, does Cordilera know about this?
We predict Duffy will land at a much better station.
Here's the memo from Pappas.
Good morning Guardians. I wanted to let you know that Kelly Duffy has announced she will be leaving KOAA by the end of November this year. Kelly and I have been talking about the next steps in her career for some time now and she is ready to explore them.
She wrote us a note that I attached below and wanted to send it with my gratitude to her.
Kelly came to us 4 years ago via KSBW in Monterey-Salinas and lead us through major fires and floods, breaking weather, award winning investigative, keeping us on brand with ALWAYS watching out for you and quality recruitment as we re built and advanced our on air and online content. She has developed a team of quality journalists to remain the #1 most watched broadcast news in the area and most utilized digital products in Southern Colorado. We will miss many things about Kelly, but especially the passion she brings to our news team and the competitive nature she helped us deliver each and every day.
Kelly will stay on as News Director while exploring her next steps. We will continue to move our digital and on air broadcast strategies as planned and will post the News Director opening today. The transition will likely be 3 months, but it is possible to go until the end of November as we look to fill her chair with an exceptional news leader.
We thank Kelly for everything she has done for us and for the notice she has provided us, allowing us time to find a suitable replacement. Thank YOU!
