Indy Anchor Returns After Health Scare
You know it's serious when the Anchor misses the entire May book.....
WTHR Anchor Scott Swan is fianlly back at work after being hospitalized for a week in late April following a health scare that nearly took his life.
Swan posted a video to Facebook explaining that what began as a post-broadcast stomach ache led to a trip to the emergency room where he was diagnosed with a form of vasculitis.
Swan, an anchor for WTHR since 2002, said he suffered internal bleeding that caused him to lose 50 percent of his blood as a result of his condition.
"It was an artery that had burst down near my stomach. I didn't realize the seriousness of the condition until i was able to get out of the hospital and actually talk to doctors who said that, 'if you didn't stop bleeding Scott, you would not have survived the ambulance ride,'" Swan said in the Facebook video. "So i feel blessed. I feel grateful to be alive and I'm thrilled with the medical staff that really helped save my life ... I feel so much better today."
Swan said that he feels about "80 or 90 percent" and that his voice is still a bit weak because of him talking more than he had been since being hospitalized. But his energy levels are high and his appetite is strong.
He added that he will be back on air for WTHR's noon and 5:30 p.m. broadcasts soon.
"I just want to thank you and so many people for their cards, their notes, their phone calls, their prayers .. as a Christian I know that I'm alive because God saved me," he said. "God healed me in that ambulance and God is going to continue to use the medical staff going forward to help return me to good health.
