Replacement Named For Veteran Anchor
FTVLive is hearing reports out of south Texas, that a reporter at KRGV-TV (Harlingen) is headed to New Mexico to take over for a legend of the Albuquerque market. Sources tell us Steve Soliz will be headed west to take over the anchor chair of the retiring Tom Joles at KOB-TV.
Soliz has been in Harlingen for 3 years. It's his first full-time TV gig. Prior, he did a lot of radio, including a stop in Phoenix where we're guessing he met Michelle Donaldson, then ND at KPHO-TV. Donaldson is now the boss at KOB.
Soliz has big shoes to fill, and not all of it good. As FTVLive has reported, for the past several years, Joles has had some issues, including a fist-fight in the newsroom and some pretty outrageous comments during his induction into the New Mexico Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
Soliz's experience looks a little 'light' to be stepping into that role, but hey, who needs to pay their dues anymore?
One more thing? Don't say a word to anyone. We hear this move is a big secret.
