Fired Pittsburgh Anchor to Have Fundraiser
Over a year ago, WTAE Anchor Wendy Bell was fired for what many perceived as a racist post on her Facebook page.
Bell has not landed another job in TV and is now asking for people to pay her money to watch videos of her on the internet, which she expects to launch in June.
Bell has also decided to hold a fundraiser that will cost up to $75 bucks to attend.
Bell has announced “An Evening of Thanks,” June 28 at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg.
“This is not showcasing me, it’s showcasing all the goodness around us,” said Bell, who is deep into the details of what she hopes will be a night of live performances, guest appearances by some of the subjects of her “Video Thursday” features on the Positively Wendy Bell Facebook page, as well as some surprise giveaways.
It is the next step in rebranding for the polarizing former WTAE news anchor.
Bell says that at the fundraiser, people will get a “peek” at the Positively Wendy Bell website that she’d initially hoped to launch in February but that didn't happen.
Bell said it likely will go live June 29, the day after the fundraiser.
Bell said the proceeds of the fundraiser will benefit nonprofit charities chosen by her fans, as well as several subjects of her “Video Thursday” features on Facebook.
In addition, she said, she is in the process of lining up sponsors.
We're guessing the NAACP will not be one of them.
“This matters to me,” she said, describing the complicated process of putting together a fundraising event. “So we’ll do it.”
Anything to feed that anchor ego...right Wendy?
Bell is still suing WTAE and parent company Heart for firing her.
