FL Anchor Leaving TV News for the Cop Shop
WCTV (Tallahassee) morning Anchor Shonda Knight is leaving the station at the end of the book.
But, viewers will still see Knight on their TV.
She has been hired as Leon County Sheriff's Office’s executive director of community and media relations. Although, the Sheriff's office says that her job description is still being crafted based on the variety of tasks to which Sheriff Walt McNeil hopes she can lend her skills.
“This will be a hybrid of public information, community outreach and crime prevention,” McNeil said. “We understand, quite honestly, how our local media are understaffed and going in several different directions. We’ll be able to tell our own story.”
Knight will be telling that story for $85,000 a year, which is likely a lot more then she made in TV news and much better hours.
“I did everything I set out to do. It’s been a great ride. I have no reservations and this doesn’t mean I’m going away,” Knight, who's been anchoring the station's morning news since 2006 said. “I don’t have any reservations about walking away at this point. I’m looking forward to a new challenge and putting my boot a little further forward in the community.”
