Out the Door in Boston

A longtime Boston Anchor is leaving when her contract comes up.

WCVB GM Bill Fine sent an e-mail to staff announcing that J.C. Monahan, who co-anchors the station’s 5 p.m. newscast as well as the nightly news magazine “Chronicle,” is moving on when her contract ends later this year.

Until then, Fine said, Monahan will work full-time on “Chronicle.” Taking Monahan’s place beside Ben Simmoneau on the 5 p.m. newscast will be Emily Riemer, Fine said in the memo.

He also announced that Antoinette Antonio will join Randy Price on the station’s early morning “EyeOpener” newscast and continue to co-anchor the noon newscast with Erika Tarantal. The changes are effective Feb. 27.

In a note to friends and colleagues, Monahan, who’s been at WCVB-TV for 15 years, said it’s time for a new adventure.

“Personal growth comes when you step outside your comfort zone, and I am ready to chart a new course,” she wrote. “I have had the rare opportunity to develop from meteorologist to anchor of Chronicle to evening news anchor. Each step I took was a privilege and I worked hard to keep the trust granted to me by WCVB and the viewers. They too, allowed me to develop over the years. That cumulative support has been uplifting.”
