Atlanta Anchor is Dead
Longtime Atlanta Anchor Amanda Davis died suddenly yesterday.
Davis suffered a massive spontaneous stroke while at the Atlanta Aiport. She was rushed to the hospital treatment but never recovered. She died last night around 9:30PM.
Davis was the current morning Anchor at WGCL, but it was at WAGA that she made a name for herself in the A-T-L.
Davis spent 26 years at WAGA.
In 2012 she was arrested for DUI and was gone from the station's air. A few months later she announced her "retirement" from the station.
WGCL picked Davis up to start doing commentaries for the station, along with some other former personalities from the Atlanta market.
The night before her first commentary was slotted to run in WGCL, Davis was arrested again for DUI.
She ended up being featured in a 3 part series on WGCL in 2016 about her battle with the bottle.
Earlier this year the station hired her to be the morning Anchor.
Her father recently died and word was her mom was not in good health. Many inside the station feared that Davis had recently started drinking again.
Earlier this month, Davis did a phoner for the station in which she slurred her speech and many thought she was drunk at the time? Looking back, you now have to wonder if this incident was related to the massive stroke?
Tuesday, Davis was at the Atlanta airport getting ready to board a flight to attend a memorial for her father when she suffered the stroke.
She never recovered and died last night.
