Hate My Station
There is a new website making its way onto the scene called "Rate My Station," which could also be named "Hate my Station."
The site lets people post anonymous submissions about their station, their bosses and their owners. Of course, when you don't have a name attached, the hate flows freely.
Or, it's used to suck up to the boss and hope that helps. Lastly, the News Director can post as someone else and make it look like he/she is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
The site is the brainchild of WSAW (Wausau, WI) Anchor Valeria Sistrunk.
Her says it is, "A safe and honest place for journalists to learn more about any news station they're interested in working for, because we share details about news stations you won't find anywhere else."
By letting the submissions be anonymous, you really have no clue if the person is who they say they are?
People are supposed to post what job they're working in and their salary and then give their rant.
Let's check out a couple of posts and see what people have to say. Here is a post from a person claiming to be a Producer at WNEM in Saginaw:
Here's a post from the "Assignment Editor" at WGRZ in Buffalo that also appears to be looking for a raise. Since there are not that many Assignment Editors in a newsroom and this one says they worked at the station 1.5 years, should not be too hard for the bosses to figure out who's sucking up.
Lastly a post from an Anchor/Reporter at KRTV in Great Falls, MT:
Let's also hope that Valeria Sistrunk has a good lawyer on retainer. We have a feeling she is going to need it.
Reading anonymous posts about TV stations might be good for entertainment, but you are very unlikely to get a fair and honest look at the stations.
Posts are either going to be made with those that have an ax to grind, suck ups and a lot of bosses pretending to be someone else.
But, TV news people love rumor and innuendo and it is sure to be a popular place until the first lawsuit is filed.
Stay tuned...
