It was 47 years ago and it is still one of the best stories ever shown on local news. 

A giant whale beached itself and died. It was so big, no one knew how to get rid of the dead whale that was starting to stink up the place. 

So, they decided to blow it up into small pieces. 

That explosion did not go so well. 

It became instant TV news gold.
