Sinclair is promising to add newscasts to the St. Louis market when it takes control of the Tribune stations. 

This seems strange since it was Sinclair that cut the newscast at KDNL, which as of now, is the only station they own in St. Louis. 

Sinclair whacked the KDNL newscast back in 2001. In 2011, they brought back a newscast, but only because it was a shared partnership with KSDK. In 2013, that newscast got whacked again.

Now, Sinclair airs what they call a “not-traditional newscast” which is nothing more than right-wing propaganda with conservative radio host Jamie Allman called The Allman Report.

But, in their latest FCC filing, Sinclair says that when the Tribune deal is approved they will be adding newscasts to the St. Louis market. 

But, the company does admit that they would do so all under one roof. 

The St. Louis Post Dispatch writes that Sinclair said in the FCC filing that it would seek to save costs, if the Tribune Media acquisition moves forward, by lowering redundant operating expenses. In markets where it owns multiple TV stations, Sinclair said it may have a single, combined newsroom with distinct newscasts targeted to particular demographic or geographic regions.

“By giving each newscast a distinct brand and focus, Sinclair can avoid having the stations offer duplicative products while offering viewers a wider choice in news programming,” Sinclair said.

How "distinct" can it be if all the newscasts are coming out of the same newsroom and all will be required to air the Sinclair "must run" stories?

There will be nothing "distinct" about any of this and all about Sinclair saving money.
